How MAC Lookup Works
What is a MAC Address?
A MAC (Media Access Control) address is a unique hardware identifier assigned to every network interface. It is a 48-bit address typically written as six pairs of hexadecimal digits (e.g. AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FF).
The first three octets (24 bits) form the OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier), which is assigned by the IEEE to hardware manufacturers and uniquely identifies the vendor.
How to Use
- Use Single Lookup to look up one MAC address in any format (colon, hyphen, or plain hex).
- Use Multi / ARP Table to paste multiple MAC addresses or the direct output of
arp -afor batch lookup. - Use the copy button to copy the formatted MAC address to your clipboard.
- Optionally load Google Maps to see the vendor's registered location (requires consent).
- The dice looks up a random example: a single address in one of the notations, or on the list tab an ARP table from macOS, Linux or Windows.

Accepted Formats
AA:BB:CC:DD:EE:FFStandard colon-separated notation (most common on Linux/macOS)

AABBCCDDEEFFPlain hexadecimal without separators. Minimum 6 characters (OUI only) supported.
Important Notes
- Lookups use a local IEEE OUI database on this server. No external API calls are made for MAC lookups.
- Some devices use randomized MAC addresses for privacy (common on mobile phones and newer operating systems).
- The Multi/ARP tab can parse ARP table output directly. Paste the output of
arp -ato look up all devices at once. - Google Maps integration for vendor location is optional and requires your explicit consent.
Privacy & Security: MAC lookups are performed entirely on this server using a local IEEE OUI database. No data is sent to external services. Map loading is optional and requires consent.
